Free adjustment and after-care service

In general terms, the majority of our clients will never need after-care and apart from a nice thank you letter (!) we never hear from them again.

After-care and adjustment maybe needed in around 10% of clients of which the vast majority will only require one return visit.  There are some cases where multiple adjustments are needed especially with a complicated case.

All our after-care and adjustments are completely free and given by highly experienced biomechanic consultants or technicians.  Some may ask “if your orthotics are so accurate, why would they need adjusting?” – quite simply, our orthotics are designed to return your feet to their ideal position generally known as sub-talar neutral.  However (and this is where it gets complicated!) some clients have feet that cannot cope with this position and we will need to re-assess this.

Orthotic adjustment is generally a very poorly understood concept by practitioners in our field but we consider it absolutely vital. It is unrealistic to expect every client to adapt to their orthotics immediately without adjustment and the need for adjustment should never be looked upon as negative as this is is never an indication of the final success.

Generally speaking, most adjustments fall into these categories:

  1. Arch height needs to be made lower or higher as the patient is not coping
  2. Rear or forefoot angles – this means the corrective angle at the rear foot or forefoot taking you out of pronation or correcting supination need alteration.  Sometimes patients do not cope with their perfect angle correction and need less or more and some do not cope at all and require a neutral base to the orthotic
  3. Paddings.  Certain specialist paddings are added to the orthotics which may need increase or decrease
  4. Shoe fit.  Sometimes fine adjustments are needed for shoe fit

Adjustment when needed is a rather complicated issue and this list is very non-exhaustive.  However, our consultants are highly experienced in adjustments and for the very few clients that actually need them they will find the after-care to be excellent
